Forgiveness
Forgiveness is one of the great themes of Lent. When it comes to forgiveness, my favorite writer is Lewis B. Smedes who taught for many years at Fuller Theological Seminary in my hometown of Pasadena, California. He is the author of two insightful and wise books on forgiveness: Forgive & Forget: Healing the Hurts we Don't Deserve and The Art of Forgiving: When you Need to Forgive and Don't Know How.
Here is one memorable thought for Lent taken from Forgive & Forget:
"To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you."
Whatever else you do during this Lenten season consider how this might be a good time for a "prison break!" Forgiveness can be your "get out of jail free" card!
For the journey,
Stephen
