Bishop-elect Michael Hanley and Archimedes to attend Children’s Day

Bishop–elect Michael Hanley and his green dragon puppet, Archimedes, will be special guests at the Diocese of Oregon Children’s Day 2010.  Children's Day will be held on Saturday, February 27, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Trinity Cathedral, Portland.

Michael Joseph Hanley Elected 10th Bishop of Oregon

[Episcopal News Service] The Rev. Michael Joseph Hanley was elected Nov.
20 to be the 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, pending the
required consents.

Hanley, 54, rector of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Roseville,
Minnesota, was elected on the second ballot out of a field of three
candidates. He received 146 votes of 198 cast in the lay order and 104
of 132 cast in the clergy order. An election on the second ballot
required 100 in the lay order and 67 in the clergy order. The results of
all the ballots are available here.

Hanley served churches in Oklahoma, Missouri and elsewhere in Minnesota
before being calling to Roseville in 1998. He is a three-time alternate
deputy to General Convention. Hanley holds a doctor of ministry degree
from Virginia Theological Seminary and a master of divinity degree from
Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. He was ordained deacon in June
1981 and priest in April 1982. Hanley is married to Marla Martin Hanley,
associate academic dean at St. Catherine University in the Twin Cities.

Bishop Election Results Available on the Web

Beginning on the morning of Friday, November 20, balloting results for the election of the Tenth Bishop of Oregon at the 121st Diocesan Convention in Eugene will be posted on the diocesan website on the home page in the most prominent place, and will be visible to everyone. As each ballot is reported, the results will be put up immediately. When the election is finalized and the bishop-elect decided, a broadcast email will be sent out to the diocesan family and also posted on the site. (Diocesan e-Board)

Diocese of Oregon Announces Three Candidates for Bishop

[Episcopal News Service] Three priests have been nominated to stand for election as the tenth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon.

They are

* the Rev. Michael Joseph Hanley, 54, rector, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Roseville, Minnesota (Diocese of Minnesota);

* the Rev. Andrew Jeffrey MacBeth, 60, rector, Calvary Church, Memphis, Tennessee (Diocese of West Tennessee) and

* the Rev. Canon Britt Elaine Olson, 49, canon to the ordinary, Diocese of Northern California.
